The Barrie Police Service is appealing to the public for assistance after a suspicious incident was reported yesterday in the City of Barrie.
On Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 shortly after 1 p.m., police attended Patterson Park, which is located on Moon Drive, after a citizen located a scattered trail of dog treats along the east perimeter of the park. When the trail was followed, it led to the discovery of a larger pile of dog food and more dog treats.
After consultation with the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) branch located on Patterson Road, the food was photographed by police and then seized for examination. The ongoing investigation will be conducted by investigators from the OSPCA and it is anticipated that any subsequent testing will determine if the seized food was harmful in anyway.
Although this incident appears to be isolated, dog owners are reminded to ensure the safety of their pets at all times. The return to milder weather conditions and melting snow may result in additional discoveries being made and these too should be reported to the police.
