A Timmins Police cruiser sits outside the building where one person was killed and two injured after a shooting in the early hours of Sept. 23, 2021.

The suspect in a Schumacher murder investigation has been arrested in the Barrie area.

Timmins Police communications co-ordinator Marc Depatie said the male suspect was arrested just north of Barrie thanks to a collaborative effort with the Greater Sudbury Police and Ontario Provincial Police.

The name of the suspect and list of charges are expected later this week.

The investigation is ongoing into an early morning shooting that left one person dead and two others in hospital.

Around 1:30 a.m., Thursday (Sept. 23), three people were located in an apartment on Father Costello Drive after a neighbour heard gunshots and called police.

A local man died at the scene. His identity has not been released.

The other two people — a man and a woman who are both from Timmins — were brought to Timmins and District Hospital with gunshot wounds.

Depatie said the male victim is conscious and alert and the woman was transferred to another hospital.

The shooting is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety at this point, according to police.

Police say they are working under the premise that the people involved were familiar with each other. They suspect it is "part of the drug subculture in the Timmins area."
