Suspect in custody after stolen vehicle crashes on Lakeshore (6 photos)

'The driver of the stolen vehicle fled on foot and was apprehended a short distance away,' says Barrie police official

A male suspect is in custody after a stolen vehicle report led to a failure-to-remain collision and attempt to flee this afternoon along Barrie's Lakeshore Drive.

City police received a report about a vehicle stolen in Barrie's north end near Bayfield Mall shortly before 4 p.m., Wednesday.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon said an officer saw the vehicle near a Toronto Street building a short time later, but was unable to stop the driver.

“There was a collision with another vehicle as result of the failure to stop and the driver of the stolen vehicle fled on foot and was apprehended a short distance away,” Leon told BarrieToday

Leon said the investigation is ongoing and the traffic unit is on the scene and looking into the collision.

At this time, police don’t believe there were any injuries.

Charges are pending and police say they will have more information Thursday.
