Festive RIDE spot check leads to drug charges

PENETANGUISHENE – On Wednesday December 21, 2016 at approximately 1:57 p.m. officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot at Lafontaine Road and Robert Street West in Penetanguishene, ON.

A lone male approached the officers in a grey Pontiac Sunfire. Upon speaking to the male an officer detected a smell of alcohol and a suspected smell of cannabis marihuana.

After investigation the male driver Brian Wagner (age 57) from Barrie was issued a seven day warn range driver’s licence suspension. His driver’s licence was seized and he was further charged with:

  • Adult possession of a schedule I substance – Other Drugs contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

  • Adult possession of a schedule II substance – Cannabis marijuana – under 30 grams contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

The accused is schedule to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on March 2, 2017 in Midland, ON.
