On Sunday, Dec. 17, officers with the Traffic Unit conducted numerous R.I.D.E. checks at various locations around Bradford. Officers checked approximately 400 vehicles and tested 24 drivers who had been drinking.

Warn range: Four drivers each received a three-day licence suspension

At 12:30 a.m. a 38-year-old Bradford man, was stopped in the R.I.D.E. program on Dissette Street in Bradford and showed signs of alcohol impairment. The man was arrested and brought into the station for further tests.

The man registered readings over the limit and is now facing criminal charges of impaired driving and over 80 mgs. The man has a date with a judge in January. His car was automatically impounded for seven days and his drivers licence suspended for 90 days.

At 1:40 a.m., a 25-year-old Barrie man attempted to evade the R.I.D.E. program on Dissette Street in Bradford.

A R.I.D.E. unit followed after the man and stopped him a short distance away. The man was found to be on conditions with Durham Regional Police for charges relating to thefts and property crimes. One of the court-ordered conditions on the man was that he remain in his residence during night time hours. The man was arrested for breach of conditions.

At 2 a.m., a 24-year-old man from Bradford was stopped in a car driving three friends after a night out. The car was owned by a passenger who had too much to drink. The man had also been drinking and was given a road side test where he registered in the warn range.

The man was given a three-day licence suspension. Marijuana was also found in the car along with drug paraphernalia. The friend's car was towed and everyone took a cab home, which is what they should have done in the first place. The man learned that if you are going to be the designated driver, you shouldn't have almost as much to drink as your passengers.

Officers will continue to be out all season long looking for drivers who are impaired by drug or alcohol.

There is no excuse for drinking and driving. You always have an option. Make the right decision. Call a friend, call a taxi or ride service, or just stay over.

Please don't drink and drive!

The Festive R.I.D.E. program continues until early January 2018.
