Springwater resident, 84, charged in fatal crash from last summer

On July 10, 2020, around 1:30 p.m., members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, Springwater Fire Department and Simcoe County Paramedic Service responded to a serious collision involving a farm tractor and motorcycle on Highway 26 west of Horseshoe Valley Road.

A motorcycle collided with a farm tractor and the operator was thrown from the motorcycle.

David Ball, 64 years old from Essa Township, died at the scene of the collision.

Highway 26 was closed for several hours while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction measured and documented the scene.

As a result of the investigation, Teunis Ploeg, 84-years-old, of Springwater Township, has been charged with careless driving cause death under the Highway Traffic Act on Dec. 28, 2020.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Provincial Offences Court in Wasaga Beach on March 2, 2021.
