South Simcoe Police assist suicidal male

Innisfil - South Simcoe Police, along with Innisfil Fire and Rescue and Simcoe County Paramedics attended in the Alcona area in response to a call of a suicidal male. Upon arrival, police located a male on the roof of a house threatening to jump. The male had blood on him as a result of breaking a glass window before police arrived. The South Simcoe Police Crisis Outreach and Support Team (COAST) attended and in junction with police officers on scene were able to de-escalate the situation. The male, after lengthy negotiations re-entered the house and was apprehended by police. No further injuries were sustained and the male was taken to hospital for treatment.

The South Simcoe Police Crisis Outreach and Support Team (COAST) responds to all calls that involve crisis-response that include:

  • mental health situations
  • suicide-related incidents
  • suspected overdoses
  • occurrences involving persons experiencing adverse symptoms related to neurodevelopmental considerations (like autism)
  • persons experiencing negative symptoms from dementia

The COAST Team is staffed with a member of the South Simcoe Police Service and a crisis worker.
