South-end Circle K robbed for second time in 7 days

Suspects in both incidents are believed to be minors, says police official

For the second time in one week, a Circle K in south-end Barrie was robbed of vaping products.

At 8:10 p.m., Monday, a male entered the Circle K at Marsellus Drive and Mapleton Avenue and stole approximately $20 worth of vaping products.

The suspect is described as five-foot-seven with a thin build and dirty blonde hair. He was wearing a black puffy Columbia jacket and brown winter boots.

Barrie police were previously called to the same location on Feb. 15, shortly after 6 p.m., after a male brandished what appeared to be a firearm to staff on duty. That individual also left with vaping products.

In that case, the suspect is described as a Black male, standing approximately five-foot-10. He was wearing a large red winter coat, with fur around the hood and wearing a black COVID face mask with a yellow Nike logo on it.

No employees were harmed in either incident.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon said while there is video footage, they cannot release it.

“It appears in both cases that the individuals are young people as identified by the Youth Criminal Justice Act, so we are hesitant to release any video or still frames,” Leon told BarrieToday

Leon also said Circle K stores have “excellent video footage capabilities and a great working relationship with local law enforcement.”

“The staff are also very well trained to handle situations that arise and we are very happy for that,” he added.

The south-end robberies are just two at one location, but not the first in a recent wave.

On Feb. 12, a man allegedly carrying an edged weapon robbed the Circle K at 353 Anne St.

The same man is believed to have robbed a Bayfield Street Circle K approximately eight hours prior.

Police have a male suspect in custody who allegedly committed both of those robberies.
