Several residents of central Ontario face numerous charges following a three-month investigation focused on the distribution of illegal drugs through the Greater Simcoe County area.
Project Blackbird began in September 2017 as a joint Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigation with the Barrie Police Service including the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), OPP Central Region Community Street Crime Unit and Provincial Operations Intelligence Bureau.
Search warrants were executed earlier this week by members of the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit and Emergency Response Team and the Barrie Police Street Crime Unit. During the investigation police seized:
• Quantities of cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, oxycodone, GHB, cannabis marihuana and cannabis resin with an approximate street value of $120,000;
• Two handguns with ammunition;
• One replica handgun;
• One knife (prohibited weapon);
• Approximately $55,000 currency as proceeds of crime; and,
• One automobile.
Six people have been charged with a total of 51 offences contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act (CDSA) and the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC). Names of the accused persons, their respective charges, and place of residence are (below). The accused persons are expected to appear at Ontario Courts of Justice at various locations and dates. The investigation continues.
