The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has terminated its investigation into an Innisfil man’s injury during a police protest this past summer.

In August, a 55-year-old Innisifl man was arrested and charged with assaulting police in Peterborough. While being booked following his arrest, the man indicated he had suffered broken ribs.

On Tuesday, SIU director Joseph Martino announced the investigation had been terminated.

In the afternoon of Aug. 13, a group of people gathered to protest in the parking lot at the south end of the Peterborough police station. The 55-year-old local man became involved in a physical altercation with police officers and was arrested.

The SIU says its investigators made several attempts to speak with the man, but he declined an interview and refused to authorize the release of his medical records.

Due to the circumstances, Martino says he was not satisfied the man had suffered a serious injury within the statutory jurisdiction of the SIU.

The file has been closed.
