Shelburne teen the victim of fatal collision

EAST GARAFRAXA TOWNSHIP - On Dec. 25, 2017 at 1:15 p.m., Dufferin OPP were dispatched to a serious personal injury collision on Dufferin County Road 109 between the East Luther-West Luther Town line and East-West Garafraxa Town line. Dufferin and Wellington County EMS and Grand Valley Fire Department responded as well.

Preliminary investigation reveals that a sedan traveling eastbound on Dufferin County Road 109 crossed over into westbound lane and side swiped a westbound pickup truck resulting in this collision.

The male driver of the pickup truck suffered minor injuries and the female passenger in the same vehicle suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. Both were taken by EMS to an area hospital.

The lone female occupant of the sedan, Erin Eidt, 17 years of age, a resident of Shelburne, Ont. succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Next of kin has been notified.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators attended the scene and highway was closed for approximately six hours. No charges have been laid as the investigation is still ongoing. Further details will be released when they become available.
