Scooter collision results in impaired driving charges

Police say driver had fallen off of the scooter while attempting to make a turn at a high rate of speed, causing injuries to herself

TOWNSHIP OF ESSA - On Thursday, July 6, 2017 at approximately 12:54 p.m., officers from the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a single motor vehicle collision in a parking lot on Commerce Road, Angus, in the Township of Essa.

When officers arrived, they found an electric mobility scooter and a female driver in the parking lot. Through further investigation, it was determined that the driver had fallen off of the scooter while attempting to make a turn at a high rate of speed, causing injuries to herself.

The lone female driver of the scooter was arrested by police and transported by the County of Simcoe Paramedic Services to a local hospital for minor injuries.

As a result of the officer's investigation, Wendy Bennett, age 53, of Essa Township was charged with Impaired Driving and Over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 mL of blood.

The accused was released from custody and will attend a future court date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford.
