COOKSTOWN/BRADFORD - South Simcoe Police Service officers are searching for a suspect following two day-time break and enters on Monday.

On Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, around 4 p.m., police received a 911 call from a home in the Church Street and King Street South area of Cookstown. A female resident reported there was a man with a handgun in her home. She said the man left after seeing her, got into a vehicle and drove off.

The second break and enter call on Monday was in the 13th Line and Highway 400 area of Bradford West Gwillimbury. The resident arrived home to find the house had been broken into sometime between 3:45 and 4:50 p.m. Numerous items were stolen.

The suspect is believed to be the same in both incidents.

He is described as white with a thin beard. He was wearing a dark-coloured Under Armour hat, white t-shirt, black pants, black running shoes and sunglasses. He was walking slow.

The suspect vehicle is a black, Dodge Ram Dually pickup truck with orange lights on the roof of the cab, long, chrome running boards, chrome front grill and black rims.

Anyone with information on these break and enters is asked to contact South Simcoe Police Service at 950-775-3311, 705-436-2141 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

South Simcoe Police Service is reminding residents that no possession or amount of money is worth your life. Always comply with demands during a robbery. We are also providing several tips to help prevent thieves from breaking into your home or your vehicle. Break and enters are often a crime of opportunity.
    •    Always lock your doors and windows as well as your vehicle doors and garage doors. Secure all basement and ground-level windows and patio doors
    •    Do not leave keys or garage door openers inside of your vehicle when it is parked in the driveway
    •    Do not announce your travel plans or absence from home on social media or your phone’s voicemail
    •    Do not discuss the contents of your home with others or leave boxes/packaging for expensive items on display in recycling bins
    •    When someone rings your doorbell or knocks on your door, make them aware that someone is home, even if you don’t feel comfortable answering the door. For example, call out to the person that you can’t answer the door right now
    •    Be aware of suspicious people or vehicles in your neighbourhood and call police immediately if you’re concerned
