A body has been recovered and one arrest has been made in connection with the case of the missing couple from Markham.

York Regional Police investigators found the remains of one person at Twin Creeks Landfill and Environmental Centre in Watford, Ont., about 45 minutes west of London, where they believe the second body is also located.

Police said Quoc Tran and Kristy Nguyen were murdered at 111 Zenway Blvd., in Vaughan, where they were last seen around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept, 18, 2021.

A Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued Sept. 28 for Phuong Tan Nguyen, who is a suspect in the murder. The warrant for the Toronto resident remains in place.

However, following the release of photographs, tips from the public helped police identify a vehicle and its driver.

On Wednesday, Sept. 29, Recaldo Liburd was arrested and charged with two counts of accessory after the fact of murder.

The 36-year-old Vaughan man is currently in custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 14 at the Newmarket Superior Court of Justice.
