Police vehicle rammed in south end, officers searching for suspect

'The cruiser was inoperable, but the officer was not physically injured,' says police official following incident on D'Ambrosio Drive

Barrie police are on the lookout for a vehicle that struck one of their cruisers Thursday afternoon in the city's south end.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., during an attempted vehicle stop, a Barrie police car was hit by the suspect's vehicle as the driver attempted to flee.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Jennett Mays said the incident occurred on D'Ambrosio Drive, near Yonge Street.

"During the stop, the vehicle was placed in reverse, striking the cruiser before fleeing the area," Mays told BarrieToday. "The cruiser was inoperable, but the officer was not physically injured.

"We are currently working to locate the vehicle and driver," she added.

The investigation is ongoing as officers search the area.

BarrieToday will have more details as they become available.
