A woman faces more than a dozen charges following a traffic stop earlier this month near Park and High streets in Barrie where officers say found a rifle on the passenger seat, as well as drugs and open liquor in the vehicle.

Barrie police say they responded to a report of a vehicle being driven without licence plates shortly before 9:30 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 5. The vehicle was located and stopped by the responding officers.

The driver, a 31-year-old woman of no fixed address, was arrested on two outstanding bench warrants held by Huronia West OPP and Barrie police.

According to city police, a subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of suspected cocaine and methamphetamine, an open bottle of wine and an unsealed bottle of scotch whiskey, both of which were readily available to the driver. Officers also found an unsafely stored, unloaded, semi-automatic Savage 64 LR 22 (.22 calibre) rifle resting against the passenger seat.

Officers continued their investigation at Barrie police headquarters where they were able to confirm the vehicle had been taken without the consent of the owner.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing that was scheduled to take place on Monday, Sept. 6 and has been remanded into custody.
