Police seize almost 75 grams of crack, 12 grams of fentanyl in west-end bust (4 photos)

Barrie police initially called to Moore Place home for wellness check, but instead located two men who didn't live there

Barrie police seized almost 75 grams of crack cocaine and just over 12 grams of fentanyl following what was initially a wellness check in the city's west end, Thursday morning.

Shortly before 8 a.m., police were called to a home on Moore Place, near Edgehill and Ferndale drives, to check a person who resides in the home. But upon entering the residence, police say officers located two men who did not live there.

One of the men initially provide a false name in an attempt to mislead the officers, but, when cautioned, identified himself, according to police. That's when it was determined he was failing to comply with the conditions associated with a judicial order of release.

The man was placed under arrest and, when searched, officers found him to be in possession of a "very large amount" of Canadian currency.

Police say the responding officers were also able to confirm the two men had attempted to conceal a large quantity of drugs they had in their possession prior to police entering the residence. Police say they subsequently located and seized 74.62 grams of crack cocaine and just over 12 grams of fentanyl.

A 24-year-old Brampton man has been charged with four counts of failing to comply with a judicial release, failure to comply with probation, possession of crack cocaine, possession of fentanyl, possession for the purpose of trafficking in crack cocaine, and possession for the purpose of trafficking in fentanyl.

A Springwater Township man, who is also 24 years old, has been charged with two counts of failing to comply with probation, possession of crack cocaine, possession of fentanyl, possession for the purpose of trafficking in crack cocaine, and possession for the purpose of trafficking in fentanyl.

Both were held in custody and are scheduled to appear today by video for a bail hearing.
