Police seize $10K in cocaine, opioids during drug bust in Barrie

Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) arrested a male and female following a drug offences investigation.

The Nottawasaga CSCU began a drug-trafficking investigation in the early summer of 2021.

On Aug. 4, 2021, Nottawasaga CSCU with the assistance of Central Region Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE), Barrie Tactical Unit, Huronia West CSCU and Dufferin CSCU executed a search warrant at an address in Barrie.

As a result of this investigation, Ashley Davis, 34 years old, of Springwater was arrested and charged with the following:

— Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine

— Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid

— Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

— Obstruct peace officer

Also as a result of this investigation, Andrew Smith, 35 years old, of Toronto was arrested and charged with the following:

— Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine

— Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid

— Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

— Failure to comply with release order

Drug value estimated in the amount of $10,000.

Both accused were held pending a bail hearing.
