Police seek public assistance following suspicious fire

On Tuesday, July 18, 2017, the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a fire at a local construction site on Monarch Drive in the City of Orillia.

At approximately 12:15 a.m., police were notified by Orillia Fire Department of an excavator that was on fire. 

Officers responded to the scene and observed the machine on fire. Shortly after arriving on the scene officers deemed the fire suspicious. 

The Forensic Identification Services (FIS) was called in to assist with the investigation. 

Police are requesting the assistance of the public. If anyone has information or has seen anything suspicious in the Monarch Drive, Vanessa Drive or Orion Boulevard area within the last few days they are encouraged to contact the Orillia OPP at 705-326-3536 or 1-888-310-1122.
