Police look for suspects following downtown robbery

Incident happened around 11 p.m. on April 18 on Owen Street between Dunlop and Collier streets

Barrie police are hoping the public can help them find two suspects believed to have been involved in a robbery downtown a week ago.

Just before 11 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, two people were caught on security camera after an individual was robbed of his wallet and some other personal items.

The incident happened on Owen Street, between Dunlop and Collier streets.

The information was released a week after the incident as the investigating detective was waiting for a video that had been requested and, once received, it needed to be analyzed.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday the suspects' identity will be tracked down by whatever means investigators can use to do so.

“These types of incidents have no place in any community and when they happen in our community, the Barrie police will utilize whatever resources are available and required to identify the assailants,” said Leon.

“Criminal behaviour of any kind is never condoned by society and those who wish to operate outside the realm of what is acceptable must be held accountable for their actions," he added.

The suspects would have had to come in close contact with the victim, meaning they would have also broken the laws under the current COVID-19 health crisis.

While the suspects could technically be charged for breaking the current Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, Leon said “the real issue is the robbery and the victim would likely be required for the charge that could be laid under the (Act).”

Any information on the suspects can be emailed to [email protected].
