Police seek dash-cam video that could shed light on Sunday's fatal crash

'Anyone who may have been waiting at the light, or passed by the area at the time, could be a really big help,' says Barrie police official

Barrie police are appealing to the public for any dash-cam footage that could provide more information about what led to a fatal crash early Sunday morning near Cundles Road and Highway 400.

Officers responded to the scene around 6:30 a.m., March 21, following a violent collision which led to the death of the 23-year-old male driver from Springwater Township.

The man, who was the lone occupant in dark-coloured, four-door car, was pronounced dead at the scene after the vehicle collided with a pole near the on- and off-ramps to Highway 400's southbound lanes.

While the investigation is ongoing, Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that officers have information that allowed them to recreate the scene.

“Based on information we’ve obtained, we can conclude that the possible route was that the driver turned onto Cundles (Road East) from Bayfield (Street) and continued along that road until the scene of the crash,” Leon said Tuesday.

It's unclear how fast the vehicle was travelling when the crash occurred.

“We know speed was a factor and have to confirm that through the downloading of information from the vehicle," Leon added.

Leon says he understands it could difficult be to retrieve dash-cam video of what led to the collision because of the time of day it happened, but he's hoping someone in the community may be able to help.

“It's Sunday, early morning, so we know there likely were not a lot of people out and about,” Leon said. “But anyone who may have been waiting at the light, or passed by the area at the time, could be a really big help.”

If anyone has dash-cam video of a dark, four-door car travelling in the area of Bayfield Street, Cundles Road East, St. Vincent Street, Lions Gate and JC Massie Way on Sunday, March 21 between 6:25 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., they are asked to call 705-725-7025, ext. 2912.
