Police say driver error sent car through window at Cottage Canoe

Scarborough man, 29, will not be charged because crash happened on private property, says Barrie police official

An early morning crash into the Cottage Canoe Restaurant in the city's west end thankfully did not lead to any injuries and the cause was driver error, according to Barrie police.

The front window of the Cottage Canoe, located at Dunlop Street West and Ferndale Drive, was smashed by a vehicle that ended up halfway into the restaurant.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday the call came in at 3:43 a.m., Sunday, and that the car had been put in drive instead of reverse.

“The driver was a 29-year-old man from Scarborough, who will not be charged as this was private property,” Leon said. “There were no injuries to any of the three occupants in the vehicle.”
