Police release new video in connection with Georgina fire homicide

York Regional Police believe person seen in the video at 2:40 a.m. is a witness and could have information that would aid investigators

York Regional Police have released surveillance video in connection with a homicide and house fire in Georgina on Jan. 15.

They are hoping the person in the video will come forward and speak with investigators.

The fire was reported at about 5 a.m. on Jan. 15 and crews who arrived on the scene discovered the homeowner, 85-year-old Sandy Gauthier, deceased.

A post-mortem investigation later determined that the cause of death was homicide

Police have now released video footage from the area that shows an individual walking down the street at 2:40 a.m. that day. They believe that person may be a witness or have information that could aid in the investigation and are appealing to the individual to come forward.

They are also encouraging anyone else with information to come forward and are asking for people who have security video or dash-cam footage from the area to share that information with investigators.

York Regional Police officers have set up a command station in the area of Miami Drive and Queensway South for residents to speak with investigators. Anyone with information can also contact Homicide Unit at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7865, or email them at [email protected], or leave an anonymous tip by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or online at www.1800222tips.com.
