Barrie police have released new details about a failure-to-remain collision Saturday night that sent an elderly man to hospital.

On Nov. 12, at 9:56 p.m., following the Barrie Colts game, police responded to a crash near Sadlon Arena in the city's south end after the man was struck and injured by a vehicle travelling southbound on Bayview Drive. Police say the driver failed to remain at the scene.

The pedestrian, whom police say is a Barrie resident in his early 70s, was "seriously injured" in the collision. He was initially transported to a local hospital and later taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre where he's being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

On Saturday night, members of the Barrie Police Service Traffic Unit conducted an on-scene investigation.

"The investigation did yield valuable information about the fail-to-remain vehicle as evidence was left behind after the driver fled," police said in a news release Tuesday morning. "Traffic investigators have now confirmed that the suspect vehicle is a Honda Accord, grey in colour, that will be missing the driver’s side sideview mirror."

Police also say they have seized additional evidence from the scene that they believe will assist in positively identifying the involved motor vehicle.

Anyone with dash-cam video or who may have information on the identity of the driver, or the involved motor vehicle, is asked to email the investigating officer at [email protected].
