Barrie police investigate a stabbing on Gunn Street in the city's east end on Friday, April 21.

Barrie police have arrested a suspect following a daylight stabbing last Friday morning which sent a man to hospital.

Just after 9 a.m. on April 21, police were called to Gunn Street where a fight between two men led to one being stabbed.

The victim, a 36-year-old Barrie man, was transported to a local hospital and then airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre where he was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

On Monday morning, police announced they had made an arrest.

Nathan Hunnef-White, 28, of Barrie has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, failure to comply with a release order, and failure to comply with probation order (two counts).

At the time of the incident, police descended on the east-end neighbourhood to search for the suspect. Investigators used canine track and a drone, but couldn’t locate him.

Through video surveillance on the street and the surrounding area, along with information received from witnesses, police say they were able to identify the suspect, who was taken into custody Friday afternoon.

Hunnef-White was held for a bail hearing and was remanded into custody. He's scheduled to appear in person today at the Barrie court.
