Police make arrest after reports of child pornography being uploaded to internet

ORILLIA - Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, Technological Crime Unit and the Orillia Detachment have arrested and charged an Orillia man after receiving multiple reports from various social media outlets that an unknown person was uploading images of child sexual abuse to the internet.

On June 29, 2017 police executed a search warrant at an Orillia residence. As a result of this investigation, a computer system was seized which contained images of child sexual abuse. 

On June 29, 2017, police arrested Matthew Joseph Briggs, 21 years old of Orillia, Ontario. He is charged with three counts of Possession of Child Pornography and two count of Making Available Child Pornography. 

The accused will appear in court on July 18, 2017 in Orillia, Ontario at the Ontario Court of Justice.

The investigation is continuing.
