Police looking for man in grocery store theft attempt

Barrie Police are looking to identify a man who attempted to steal a cart full of groceries and when approached by the store’s Loss Prevention Officer (LPO), walked away toward an adjacent parking lot and a waiting vehicle.

On Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at approximately 5 p.m., a male suspect was observed filling a cart with almost $400 worth of groceries and then exiting the store, making no attempt to pay for any of the items in the cart.

The store’s Loss Prevention Officer followed the male outside the store and attempted to arrest him. The man then left the cart and walked away from the LPO, leaving all the items in the cart.

The man was last seen being picked up by a black SUV in the adjacent parking lot of a hardware store.

The suspect is described as:

  • Male
  • Approximately 6-foot-2
  • Heavy build
  • Black beard
