NEWS RELEASE

The Barrie Police Service is currently investigating the report of a suspicious person who was reportedly seen a number of times this week at various locations in the north end of the City of Barrie.

Last night, shortly after 9 p.m., police were made aware of an individual who has been observed in a number of public places throughout the week. Locations include a park, pathway and in one case possibly a residence, all in the area of the Barrie Sports Dome.

Police are attempting to locate a male with yellowish tanned skin 25-27 years old, of average height and a skinny build. He has dark hair shaved on all sides, long hair on top that is combed over to one side and walks with a limp.

His left eyebrow has what appears to be a vertical shave line and he has a piercing in his lower lip. The male wore a silver chain around his neck, a black sweater with two white lines on both sleeves and a white cross over the left breast and black "Adidas" type sweat pants.

In light of recent incidents that have been reported to police in neighbouring jurisdictions that involves the suspicious activity of persons seen loitering in areas where children are playing or gather, the Barrie Police Service is reminding the public to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings and others around them at all times.

In both of these incidents, children were involved and it was these children that immediately made their parents aware of what had taken place which resulted in police being notified.

With the return of milder weather, the Barrie Police Service is asking parents to discuss with their children what to do if they are approached by an unknown person or they observe someone who appears to be out of place or acting in a suspicious manner.

Parents are encouraged to attend to areas with their children and are reminded that obtaining a description of the individual that includes clothing, height, weight, build and other unique characteristics of any suspicious person is very important.

Parents are also reminded that police should be contacted immediately so that responding officers can hopefully locate the person in question and conduct a proper investigation.

Anyone with information with regards to this incident is asked to contact the Barrie Police Service at 705-725-7025, ext. 2931, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or leave an anonymous tip online at www.p3tips.com.
