Barrie police is reminding the public to always lock your car doors when you park your motor vehicle in a public parking lot, your driveway and in your garage. This reminder comes as some property stolen from an unlocked car was located earlier this morning.

Police responded to a report of found property that had been located by a person who was walking their dog in the Ardagh Bluffs area directly across from the Peggy Hill Team Community Centre (Holly Community Centre). Several pieces of identification belonging to a resident of Silver Maple Crescent were being returned to the owner when a nearby neighbour approached police to report that his unlocked car was also ransacked, and a pair of sunglasses and some loose change were missing.

The male who had earlier approached police later discovered that a quantity of money and three books of raffle tickets for Down Syndrome Association of Simcoe County were also stolen.

These types of thefts are preventable if valuables are not left in your car, and it is always locked when you park it.

Video surveillance can be helpful to police, and Barrie Police encourages the public to register with the service’s security camera registry as your participation can help to identify those who choose to participate in criminal activity within your neighbourhood. The registry is available by clicking onto the following link: https://www.barriepolice.ca/camera-registry/.
