Police investigating hit-and-run find guy in only a sweatshirt

Barrie Police were requested by Ontario Provincial Police to search the area of Tiffin Street after a male fled from a fail to remain collision on Highway 400 Northbound and Dunlop Street West, in the City of Barrie.  

Officers who were checking the area for the suspect located a male matching the description given by witnesses, [and] he was not dressed for the weather, only wearing a sweatshirt.  

When police attempted to stop the male he ignored their requests multiple times and continues his retreat in the opposite direction.  

Once finally stopped for police the male was identified and it was determined he was breaching multiple probation orders.  

He was arrested and upon search police located two knives, a large quantity of cash and a quantity of cocaine.  

The 35-year-old Barrie male was charged with:

  • Breach probation X 5
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a controlled substance 
  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking

He was held at the Barrie Police Service overnight for a bail hearing.

It was determined through further investigation the male was not connected to the fail to remain collision.  

The Ontario Provincial Police are continuing with their investigation at this time into that incident.
