Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating the drowning of a swimmer in Nottawasaga River in the Town of Wasaga Beach.
On Aug. 13, 2022, at approximately 5:20 p.m., officers responded to a call for a possible drowning in Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. Initial information was that a swimmer entered the water in beach area one close to the boat launch and failed to resurface.
Huronia West officers including the Marine Unit along with Wasaga Beach Fire Department and Simcoe County Paramedics located, recovered, and brought the victim to shore, where CPR was conducted. The victim was transported to hospital by ambulance and later pronounced deceased.
The deceased has been identified as Kuljit Dhinsa, 42-year-old from Richmond Hill, Ont.
The death is believed to be non-suspicious, and no foul play is suspected.
The Huronia West OPP are continuing the investigation in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto.

- always swim with a buddy
- know your limits and swimming abilities
- let someone know when and where you're going for a swim
- test the waters with your feet, don't dive right in
- don't swim while under the influence of alcohol / drugs
