Police investigate auto shop theft in city's south end

Police say the theft took place on Feb. 22 overnight

On Feb. 22, 2021, employees at Princess Auto in Barrie’s south end arrived at the store and discovered that a theft had taken place from the outdoor storage area sometime overnight.

Upon reviewing security footage, it was determined that at approximately 3:00 a.m., a black SUV towing a large, enclosed trailer, pulled up next to a section of the fence surrounding the outdoor showroom. The suspect then exited the vehicle, and using a torch, cut through the steel fence, and took several small items, and placed them in the trailer.

After leaving at approximately 3:40 a.m., the same vehicle, trailer and suspect returned at approximately 4:20 a.m. and used a rope / winch to pull the opening in the fence wider. The suspect then proceeded to take several larger items. In total, more than $5,000 in merchandise was taken in this incident.

The suspect is described as approximately 6’ tall, wearing a red and black winter jacket, with a blue hooded sweater underneath, blue jeans. a black winter hat, black gloves, and black boots. The vehicle is believed to be a black Ford Expedition, and the trailer has clearance lights and aluminum cladding. Both the vehicle and trailer appear to be new.
