Police find vehicle in the ditch in front of elementary school

Midland resident faces impaired driving charges

TAY TWP. - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched at 9:06 a.m. on Jan. 21, 2020 to a report of a single-vehicle into the ditch on Jephson Street Victoria Harbour Tay Township.

The attending OPP officers located a grey Toyota in the ditch in front of the elementary school at that location. The officers entered into a drinking and driving investigation after speaking with the driver and as a result, Kelly Alkins 44 years old of Midland has been charged with the following driving offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days and the accused's driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days under the conditions of the administrative driver's licence suspension. The accused was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Feb. 6, 2020.
