Police called to downtown bank after victim struck in the head with folding chair

The 64-year-old Barrie man suffered head injuries and serious facial injuries

Barrie Police have arrested and charged a 34-year-old Barrie man following an early morning assault at the downtown RBC, located at 53 Bayfield St., Barrie.

On Saturday, Dec. 16 2017 just before 6:30 a.m., an altercation between two men occurred outside RBC which resulted in the victim being struck in the head with a folding chair. The altercation continued inside the bank vestibule, leaving a 64-year-old Barrie man with head injuries and serious facial injuries.

The victim was transported to hospital. Police can assure the public this was not a random attack, and that the two men are known to one another, and regular fixtures to the downtown core.

The 34-year-old Barrie man has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and breach of recognizance. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
