A pedestrian hit by a car in downtown Barrie in May has died.

The Barrie Police Service is releasing very little information, other than to confirm the 57-year-old man succumbed to his injuries July 14.

While they didn’t release his name, an obituary has confirmed that Michael Wedlock was in an accident on May 6 in downtown Barrie and died on July 14.

The accident occurred near the downtown bus terminal at Maple Avenue and Simcoe Street that afternoon and the man was airlifted to hospital in Toronto where he was taken to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

Police said at the time the driver of the vehicle had remained on the scene. The intersection was closed for several hours while collision reconstruction officers investigated.

Barrie police spokesman Peter Leon said this week the investigation continues.

According to the obituary in the Goderich Signal-Star, a private family burial was held and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Wedlock leaves behind a daughter, three sisters and a brother.
