A 30-year-old Orillia woman was found dead outside a home in a quiet residential area of Orillia on Tuesday afternoon.

Orillia OPP received a call from the County of Simcoe Paramedic Services alerting them to the body that was discovered outside a home on Harvey Street, near the intersection with Emily Street.

The woman has been identified as Sydney Whiteye.

Orillia OPP Const. Martin Hill could not provide many details, noting the investigation is ongoing.

“As far as we know it is just a person who passed away outside and we are trying to determine the last three days of her life” to understand what happened, he said.

In response to a question, Hill said it is “unknown if opioids are involved.”

Hill told OrilliaMatters that there are no public safety concerns at this point.

He could not say if she lived in the house where she was found.

The OPP Crime Unit and Central Region Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of Det. Insp. Darren Webster of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, are investigating the tragic incident.

If anyone has had contact with Whiteye in the past three days or any information they feel may be of use to investigators, they are encouraged to contact the Orillia OPP at 705-326-3536 or 1-888-310-1122.
