OPP in Orillia are investigating a homicide after a shooting early Sunday morning

ORILLIA, Ont. - On Sunday June 04, 2017 at approximately 3:50 a.m. the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with County of Simcoe Paramedic Services (CSPS) and the Orillia Fire Department responded to a report of a shooting at a Franklin Street residence in the City of Orillia.

Officers responded to the scene and a male victim was located. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The investigation into this death is continuing by the Orillia OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Andy Raffay of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

The OPP is searching for the person(s) responsible for this incident and until further advised, the person(s) responsible should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information or knows who may be responsible is urged to immediately contact the OPP.

A post mortem examination was conducted yesterday at the‎ Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Services (OCC-OFPS) in Toronto and the deceased has been identified as 34-year old, Joseph Simonds of Orillia.
