ORILLIA - On Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017 the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a threat against an Orillia area school.

At approximately 3:10 p.m., OPP and the Orillia Fire Department (OFD) responded to a threat at the school. A lock down was commenced and the school evacuated for precautionary measures.

A search of the school and school grounds revealed nothing suspicious and the school was deemed safe.

Calling the police and reporting a fake incident to generate a response is a crime and could have serious ramifications beyond criminal charges. Emergency services need to be available at all times. Calls like this that occupy time and resources of emergency service personnel can reduce the level of service to people who are in need.
