ESSA TWP. – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind members of our community to remain vigilant by locking their vehicles and residences.
Recently, the Nottawasaga OPP has responded to numerous complaints of community members who have had items stolen from their vehicles. One location within our jurisdiction of particular mention is Thornton, in Essa Township. Suspects are rummaging through vehicles that are left unlocked during the night and stealing items.
The Nottawasaga OPP is asking residents in Thornton to remain vigilant and report any suspicious people, vehicles or activities to police. Police would like residents to check their security cameras, or dash cameras, for video footage. If you have any information or video surveillance in relation to these thefts, please contact Nottawasaga OPP.
Nottawasaga OPP reminds residents to:
- Always keep your vehicle locked
- Do not leave valuables in your vehicle
- If you absolutely must leave valuables in your vehicle, do not leave them in plain sight
- Ensure all windows/sunroofs are completely closed • Don't leave your vehicle running or unattended
- Don't keep personal documents such as vehicle ownership, insurance slips, credit card invoices, or other documents containing personal information in their vehicles
Anyone with information regarding criminal activity is asked to contact the Nottawasaga OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). When you contact Crime Stoppers you remain anonymous, you will never have to testify and you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
