A South Simcoe Police Service officer did not commit a criminal offence in connection with a man who killed two officers in Innisfil last October.
That’s the conclusion arrived at by Joseph Martino, director of the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU). His report was released Wednesday afternoon.
At about 8 p.m., Oct. 11, police responded to the report of a domestic incident at a home in the area of 25th Sideroad and 9th Line.
The suspect shot Constables Devon Northrup and Morgan Russell, who died from their injuries. The suspect then shot himself, an SIU report stated.
It noted Martino “found no reasonable grounds to believe that a South Simcoe Police Service officer committed a criminal offence” in the matter.
