Not your average carpool as police track down suspected impaired driver

Incident happened Saturday morning on Innisfil Street in Allandale area

A Barrie police canine tracked down a driver who authorities say fled the scene after a vehicle crashed into the swimming pool of an Allandale home.

Early Saturday morning, police responded to a call about a vehicle having crashed through a fence and into a frozen pool.

Police say the driver fled the scene only to be apprehended with the help of the canine unit a short while later.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday it was joined effort by police and the community.

“We received the call just after 2 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 4, after the driver failed to negotiate the curve at Innisfil Street where it becomes Glenridge Road,” Leon said. “(It was a) successful track by K9 with assistance from the public as to where the driver was last seen.”

A 32-year-old Barrie man has been charged with impaired, over 80 and failing to remain at the scene of a crash.
