An unsanctioned truck rally caught the attention of Barrie police Friday night as dozens of vehicles were driven to the Georgian Mall parking lot on Bayfield Street.

According to police, the event was originally scheduled to take place at the Bayfield Mall, but temporary fencing was put in place by the mall owner and, with its security on the property, the event was moved down the street to the Georgian Mall rear parking area.

“There were fireworks discharged. It was very noisy,” Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday on Saturday. “No damage reported; just some garbage left behind.”

An estimated 350 people attended the rally, and 25 traffic charges were laid by police.

“The Barrie police traffic unit as well as additional resources attended,” said Leon.

Police used a drone “for aerial observation to assist with any potential investigations that may have been required,” he added.
