Nitro tracks down suspected impaired driver following crash

Sunderland man, 33, faces several charges, including resisting arrest and failing to remain at the scene of a collision

INNISFIL  The South Simcoe Police Service canine unit tracked down an [alleged] impaired driver who fled the scene of a single-vehicle collision in Innisfil.

On Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, at approximately 8:50 p.m., police responded to call regarding a suspected impaired driver who drove into a ditch on Shore Acres Drive near Yonge Street. The driver [allegedly] fled the scene on foot through a farm field.

The canine unit conducted a track and located the suspect hiding in an outbuilding where he was placed under arrest.

As a result of the investigation, 33-year-old Robert Bolender of Sunderland was charged with Operation While Impaired, Operation While Impaired - Excess Blood Alcohol, Resist Arrest and Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident.  

The accused's licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He was released with a future court date.
