Motorcycle driver airlifted to Toronto trauma centre following south-end collision

Barrie police official says charges are pending following collision involving motorcycle and car at Essa and Ferndale

A collision shortly before noon on Friday at the intersection of Essa Road and Ferndale Drive South has sent one man to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious injuries, according to Barrie police.

Around 12:30 p.m., city police tweeted that the collision had closed two main intersections due to the investigation following a collision between a motorcycle and a car.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Jennett Mays told BarrieToday they received "multiple calls" around 11:49 a.m., regarding the collision and that the driver of the motorcycle had been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“The motorcycle driver was taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre,” said Mays, who added charges are pending in connection to the crash.

An official with Simcoe County Paramedics Services told BarrieToday the man had been taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health CEntre (RVH) and that an Ornge air ambulance had been called.

Barrie police say roads in the area have reopened.
