Man charged with arson after incident at Orillia business

Witness says man threw Molotov cocktails at tattoo shop

The Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating an arson at a local business in the City of Orillia.

On November 7, 2019 shortly before 3 p.m. officers were dispatched to a business on Mississaga Street East in Orillia with reports of someone who was starting a fire at the business.

Police arrived on the scene and observed the business to have a small amount of damage to the outside of the building. The Orillia Fire Department was on scene and quickly extinguished the fire.

A 30-year-old Orillia man was taken into custody at the scene without incident.

The Orillia Crime Unit and Central Region Forensic Identification Services were called in to assist in this investigation.

The investigation will continue and updates will be issued as information is made available.

Police are investigating an incident at a downtown Orillia tattoo shop in which, according to witnesses, someone threw two Molotov cocktails at the business.

Police and firefighters responded to the corner of Mississaga and Peter streets around 3 p.m., Thursday.

An employee at Lucky Devil, who wanted to remain anonymous, said a man threw “a couple” of Molotov cocktails at the business and that no one was injured.

Police have not yet responded to a request for comment. More information will be added to this article as it becomes available.
