TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH - In early August 2017, members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit received a report of a sexual assault that occurred in New Tecumseth Township.
On Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, members from the Nottawasaga OPP Crime Unit, Child Sexual Exploitation Unit and Digital Forensics Unit executed a search warrant at an address in Mississauga.
As a result of the investigation, 24-year-old Asimul Sufyani of Mississauga was arrested and charged with the following offences under of the Criminal Code of Canada:
- Sexual Assault on a Person Under 16 years of age
- Sexual Interference
- Invitation to Sexual Touching under 16 years of age
- Making of Child Pornography
- Possession of Child Pornography
- Luring a Person Under 14 years of age
The accused was held for a bail hearing on Feb. 16, 2018 to answer to his charges.
