INNISFIL, ONT. - South Simcoe Police recovered the body of missing fisherman, Haili LI on Lake Simcoe this afternoon.

Marine Officers from South Simcoe Police and York Regional Police had been searching for the missing man for the past week after his abandoned vehicle was located on the Fourth Line of Innisfil near Lake Simcoe. Through investigation, police learned that LI had been fishing on Lake Simcoe on Monday, Oct. 17 and never returned.

Over the last week, police used a combination of boats and personal watercraft during their search. An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) from Barrie Police was also used during the search.

Officers patrolling on the Wardrop II, South Simcoe's main vessel, located LI's body in the water this afternoon near the mouth of the Holland River.

A postmortem will be conducted at the Office of the Chief Coroner in Toronto over the weekend, but police are considering the death accidental.

Officers have confirmed the LI was not wearing a life jacket.

South Simcoe Police would like to thank our partners from York Regional Police, Barrie Police, Toronto Police and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Trenton for their assistance during this investigation.
