On Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 at 7:35 a.m., Barrie Police Service received a call from a witness of a single vehicle collision into a bush area and tree where the driver was seen leaving the scene.
Police attended the area of Anne Street North and Shelley Lane, in the City of Barrie, and located a complete bumper with licence plate attached still stuck in the bush area. The witness stayed on scene and was able to provide information about the driver and the incident.
A short distance away on Scott Crescent, officers located a vehicle missing a bumper as well as the matching rear licence plate as the one located in the bushes. A female walking a dog near by was spoken to and advised the car was her friend's and that it had been stolen the night before, but that she knew nothing about why it was parked on the street.
As the story did not seem to add up, the female was cautioned on public mischief and misleading police in an investigation. Eventually it was learned the female was the driver of the vehicle and she was arrested for public mischief.
After speaking to the owner of the vehicle, it appears the female took the car without permission after spending the night partying at her house.
The 20-year-old Barrie female was charged with:
- public mischief (Criminal Code)
- resisting peace officer (Criminal Code)
- theft of motor vehicle (Criminal Code)
- careless driving (Highway Traffic Act)
- fail to report collision (Highway Traffic Act)
