Midland man faces numerous charges after trying to elude police: OPP

Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have charged a driver with numerous offences after an incident that began in Springwater Township and ended in Oro-Medonte.

On Oct. 5, 2021, at approximately 5 p.m., officers responded to a traffic complaint in the area of Highway 93 and Cassell Drive in Hillsdale.

Officers located the vehicle and, when attempting to stop it, it fled from police.

Police did not pursue the vehicle, however, it was located a short time later in a ditch with the two occupants fleeing into the bush.

OPP Canine and Emergency Response Team members conducted a search and the male driver was located hiding in the bush.

A female passenger was also located in the bush a short distance away.

As a result, Joseph Courriere, age 32, of Midland, has been charged with:

  • Flight from police
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Fail to stop
  • Resist/obstruct police
  • Fail to comply with probation
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is set to appear on Nov. 16, 2021, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Collingwood.

The female passenger, Georgia Quanbury, age 22, of Midland, was arrested on an outstanding warrant and turned over to Barrie Police Service. As a result, she was charged with Failing to Attend Court and held for a bail hearing.
