Memorial pins honouring slain officers available for pre-order

There will be 2,500 pewter pins made with the officers' badge numbers engraved on them; South Simcoe Police Association spearheading campaign, with proceeds going to officers' families

Memorial pins honouring fallen South Simcoe police constables Morgan Russell and Devon Northrup are now available for pre-order, with pick-up scheduled for this week.

The pin campaign is being spearheaded by the South Simcoe Police Association in memory of their colleagues who died after being shot Oct. 11 while responding to a disturbance at an Alcona home.

The pewter pin, with the officers' badge numbers engraved over top, are $20. Proceeds will go to the officers' families.

Only 2,500 pins are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Pins must be picked up in person on Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m at the Bradford West Gwillimbury Fire Hall at 75 Melbourne Dr.

“Const. Northrup and Const. Russell were beloved members of our police family. Their tragic, senseless deaths are having a profound impact on our service, our communities and the policing community,” the South Simcoe Police Service wrote on its website.

The South Simcoe Police Service have also created an online book of condolences for community members to sign here.

A joint funeral service for Northrup and Russell will be held Thursday, Oct. 20 at Sadlon Arena in south-end Barrie.
